Windscreen replacement with the Cee Bailey's SCC model . This windscreen is contoured and pulled back towards the rider. By reducing the distance from the shield/rider, and redesigning the contour of the shield it creates more favorable riding conditions for the rider and passenger on the FLHT. We found that this windscreen also reduced the vibration through the handlebars at high speeds since the upright stock windshield takes the direct force of the wind. http://www.ceebaileys.com/harley/flhtssc_ws.html |
Have you ever noticed the bearded biker riding down the road with his beard blowing up and wondered how this was possible? Have you ever wondered why you still experience wind noise or buffeting behind a large 'batwing' fairing? The classic Harley 'batwing' fairing is great at moving wind aside, so much so that the low air pressure created behind the fairing invites air to rush up from the bottom of the fairing and below the gas tank. This air moves in to equalize the low pressure behind the fairing. If this inward rush of air isn't controlled then it creates buffeting and noise at helmet level, as well as reducing comfort on cold days. The upward movement of air will also get you much wetter when it rains since the road spray pushes itself up. You may have noticed that keeping your knees pressed against the tank reduces the upward flow of air. To date there has been no singly effective means to control this phenomenon. The most effect counter measures force air past the sides of the motorcycle so that it doesn't push itself into the still air behind the fairing. Based upon riding experience the following items used together will greatly reduce the negative effects of wind buffeting and noise: |
Fairing mounted air deflectors; these push air out to the sides. (Harley part 58120-96A) |
Laminar lip mounted on the top of the windscreen. This lip creates a venturi tube effect, boosting the air up and over the riders head. Doesn't change the profile of the stock windscreen. Very secure. http://www.laminarlip.com/elecglide. php |
Front Fork Air Baffle (Harley part 58520-79TC) |
Fork mounted wind deflectors, these push air out to the sides (Harley part 58121-85B) |
TravelLowers come in their own carrying pouch. They attach to the crash bars in seconds and provide supperior protection from the wind. |
